Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina
Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American
actress and director who is known for her sexy appeal and edginess and also for
her work in the field of humanitarian aid. Jolie was awarded an Academy Award
for her supporting performance as a psychiatrist in Girl, Interrupted
(1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her youth in New York
before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. After two years at the Lee Strasberg
Theatre and Film Institute, she enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. After
that, she studied acting at New York University. Jolie also performed in
theatre productions and modelled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995)
when Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1996; divorcing
1999). Similar to several other films, Hackers did not gain a traction. In
1997, however Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of
Alabama's segregationist governor in the television movie George Wallace, and
she later won the Golden Globe Award for her performance. In the HBO film Gia
in which she played a supermodel with drug addiction. Jolie was awarded a
variety of distinctions and awards, including a Golden Globe Award, and Screen
Actors Guild Award. In 1999 she appeared in the comedy Pushing Tin with John
Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and in the year following she got married to
Thornton (divorced 2003).After her Oscar-winning performance in Girl,
Interrupted, Jolie appeared in a string of action-oriented films. Jolie played
the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. In the
following years, she adopted a British accent and mastered street fighting and
kickboxing in order to be able to play the characters of Lara Croft Tomb Raider
2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. She played the role of
Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander in 2004. She also starred with
Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow which is a
suspense film about sci-fi set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box
office disappointments, but Jolie had a smash with Mr. & Mrs. Smith
(2005) the film in which she played an assassin pretending to be a normal
housewife; while working on the film she met Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
